When you’re playing no limit Texas Holdem on Full Tilt Poker you’re going to run into some big river bets which you’re going to need to determine whether or not you want to call. If you’re in the hand to the river in the first place then you should have at least a marginal hand. A lot of the time a player will put out a monster bet on the river and you’re going to need to determine whether or not the bet is real or not. A lot of the time the player will have a hand, but then there will be a decent percentage of the hands where the player is bluffing.
You’re going to need to look at the opponents left in the hand initially to see whether or not you’re playing tight poker players or loose poker players. Once you have determined whether or not the player betting is loose or tight you’ll have a small idea of the hand they might have. If it’s a tight player betting big on the river then they most likely have a pretty good hand, whereas if it’s a loose player they could just be trying to buy the pot with a big bet on the river.
The next thing you need to look at before making your decision is the Full Tilt.com board. You need to look at the possible hands which could be out there. You need to see whether your opponent could have a straight or a flush or full house. They could potentially have trips as well with a pocket pair and these are very hard to read because you don’t really have any idea when someone could be holding a pocket pair. If the river card comes out and it allows for a straight or flush then you need to determine whether your opponent actually hit the hand or if they’re just playing as if they hit the hand.
When there are no straights or flushes out there available you’re going to need to make sure that you be careful about trips and two pairs. If you don’t have at least two pairs then I wouldn’t recommend calling a big bet, but if you do have two pairs or trips then you might want to pay to see your opponent’s cards. You’re usually only going to have one shot at making the big call on the river and you’ll either win a big pot or be nearly out chips so you need to be wise about the hand you play.
If your gut instinct tells you to fold your hand because you don’t think its good enough then you should just fold your hand. You don’t want to talk yourself into calling the hand which a lot of people do when there is a big bet on the river. If you think you have your www.FullTiltPoker.com opponent then make the call and if you don’t then don’t make the call, but make sure you check out the opponent who made the bet and also the board before making your decision.
